Aya Vessel 1
By contemporary South African furniture brand TheUrbanative.
The Aya Vessel 1 is composed of powder-coated mild steel with a solid timber base. The word “Aya” originates from the Twi language, meaning “fern," this piece evokes the durability of
the West African fern plant. The stylised, simplified geometry of the vessel draws from the visual language of Adinkra symbols, where clarity of form communicates deeper meaning. At first glance the piece appears minimal and direct, yet closer observation reveals layered
transitions, precise proportions, and deliberate detailing that echo the complexity embedded within the symbolic tradition that inspires the collection.
