Yakush, founded by Masha Yakush, redefines tableware with artfully crafted blown glass. Inspired by her passion for restaurant culture, Masha launched the brand to bring unique, expressive pieces to dining spaces everywhere. Based in Lviv, Ukraine, Yakush employs the 15th-century Ukrainian Guta technique, where skilled artisans shape molten glass into one-of-a-kind designs. With a commitment to sustainability, Yakush also upcycles glass shards from closed factories, giving new purpose to discarded materials.
Masha Yakush, founder of Yakush, launched her brand in 2017 with a vision to transform tableware design. Drawing on her deep love for restaurant culture and extensive consulting experience, Masha saw an opportunity to elevate dining experiences through unique, artful pieces. She recognized that even the most creative restaurants often relied on uninspired table settings, and she set out to change this—bringing artistry into both restaurant and home dining spaces. Her work is inspired by global travel, museum visits, and a commitment to exploring diverse materials and forms, resulting in designs that fuse tradition with a contemporary aesthetic.
FOUNDERS: Masha Yakush
LOCATION: Lviv, Ukraine
MATERIALS: Glass
At Yakush, blown glass is central to their work, crafted in a workshop located in Lviv, Ukraine. The brand uses a traditional free-blowing technique called Guta, a method originating in 15th-century Ukraine and named after the German word “hutte,” meaning glass-blowing workshop. This art form involves blowing a molten glass ball through a tube, then shaping it with wooden bars, tongs, and an iron rod known as a “pontil.” Skilled artisans carefully refine each piece, adjusting and shaping the glass with specialized tools. Emphasizing sustainability, Yakush also repurposes glass shards from closed factories, melting them down to create new, unique pieces. This approach honors both traditional craftsmanship and modern eco-conscious values, breathing new life into discarded glass.
