Bocci

Bocci is a Canadian lighting brand founded in 2005 by Omer Arbel and Randy Bishop, based in Vancouver. Under creative director Omer Arbel, Bocci quickly gained recognition for lighting that merges artistry with engineering, combining sculptural form and functional light. The brand operates as a hybrid of studio, research lab and factory, where experimentation, craft and material innovation are integral to its identity. Each work is designed and handcrafted in-house, by a team of primarily highly skilled female glassblowers.

behind the brand

Bocci organizes its lighting into numbered “series,” each of which grows out of a particular experiment with glass, metals, or other raw materials. Instead of following a fixed design, the process often begins with curiosity and the willingness to let materials behave in unexpected ways. A bubble trapped in molten glass, the collapse of a form, or the way heat alters color can all become the starting point for a new collection. This openness to chance gives each Bocci piece its own individuality, making no two lights completely identical.

All production takes place in the company’s own glass workshop in Vancouver, where designers, glassblowers, and engineers work side by side to refine each experiment into functional lighting. The result is a body of work that feels both industrial and handmade, scientific and poetic — objects that carry the mark of experimentation as much as the precision of craft.
