Harshita Jhamtani Designs

Harshita Jhamtani Designs is a Mumbai-based design studio founded in 2019 by architect and designer Harshita Jhamtani. Her work blends architectural precision with emotional storytelling, creating lighting and furniture that are both sculptural and functional.

Each piece is handcrafted using natural and recycled materials such as stoneware clay, terrazzo, marble, and a signature paste made from marble and glass waste. The studio works exclusively with skilled local artisans in India, embracing sustainable practices and a commitment to reducing environmental impact.

Meet Harshita Jhamtani

Harshita Jhamtani is an Indian designer and architect whose journey bridges built environments and handcrafted furniture. From a young age, she envisioned a career in architecture, eventually realizing her dream through her studies at Mumbai University. Her curiosity then led her to specialize in furniture design at the Florence Institute for Design International (FIDI).

After internships at KNS Architects and Samira Rathod Design Associates, where she explored object-making, she worked as a furniture designer for JSW Steel. In 2019, inspired by a desire for creative freedom and deeper material engagement, Harshita founded her namesake studio in Mumbai.

Story & Highlights

FOUNDER: Harshita Jhamtani

TEAM: Independent studio in Mumbai collaborating with local Indian artisans and fabricators

LOCATION: Based in Mumbai, India

MATERIALS: Stoneware clay, terrazzo, marble, recycled marble and glass paste, hand-finished metals

Harshita Jhamtani’s lighting and furniture are shaped by a dialogue between architecture and craft. Each piece begins with raw, often repurposed materials—stoneware, terrazzo, marble, or her signature stone-clay paste—transformed through patient hand-finishing. Surfaces are fluted, textured, or polished to highlight the honesty of the material, while modular forms invite interaction and play. By combining traditional processes with experimental composites, the studio achieves a language of sculptural minimalism: objects that are timeless, tactile, and rooted in both innovation and sustainability.
