ESCVDO

ESCVDO is a brand founded and based in Peru, crafting timeless pieces that celebrate artistry and purpose. They believe time and quality are the ultimate luxury, and every responsible action allows us to build a legacy that endures the test of time.

Meet Chiara Macchiavello

A lifetime of profound connections with artisans from diverse regions and cultural expressions of Peru has shaped Chiara Macchiavello’s journey. Thirteen years ago, she founded ESCVDO, driven by her identity as an artist and designer and a desire to share her vision of Conscious Creation rooted in Peru's traditions and textile heritage. As Creative Director, her purpose is to meticulously oversee the transformative process of each garment, from the very fibers and fabrics to the final creation.

Chiara created ESCVDO as a sustainable project, at a time when sustainability was not on the industry’s agenda. At the moment ESCVDO's main challenge is to continue building and improving a completely circular business model through every step of our process, while expanding and establishing a wider network of collaborators all over the country.

Witnessing the consequences that social and economic disparity, as well as pollution can bring over nature and local communities, it's been Chiara’s vision from the beginning that ESCVDO becomes a vehicle for creation, evolution, and positive impact.

Story & Highlights

FOUNDERS: Chiara and Giuliana Macchiavello

TEAM: 350 Artisans

LOCATION: HQ in Lima, production in 9 regions of Peru

MATERIALS: Cotton, Alpaca, Wool

ESCVDO builds its collections on clear sustainability principles: ethical production, fair trade, and fully traceable materials. They work with certified Peruvian fibers such as organic Pima cotton (SGS, GOTS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100) and locally sourced alpaca wool from farms with fair-trade and low-impact certifications. With nearly 80% of pieces produced on a pre-order basis, the brand actively avoids overproduction and treats sustainability as a core design philosophy rather than an add-on.

They works closely with artisan communities across Peru, employing more than 350 artisans, of whom 95% are women and 91% come from rural areas. Many are the primary earners in their households, with 62% supporting their families and 40% coming from low-income backgrounds. By engaging these artisans through long-term, fair-paying partnerships, ESCVDO helps preserve ancestral textile techniques while creating meaningful economic opportunity.

In 2024, ESCVDO and its founder Chiara Macchiavello received global recognition when they won The Bicester Collection Award for Emerging Designers at the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards. The prize celebrated the brand’s commitment to heritage craft, responsible production and social impact, helping place Peru’s artisanal excellence firmly on the international design stage.
