ESCVDO builds its collections on clear sustainability principles: ethical production, fair trade, and fully traceable materials. They work with certified Peruvian fibers such as organic Pima cotton (SGS, GOTS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100) and locally sourced alpaca wool from farms with fair-trade and low-impact certifications. With nearly 80% of pieces produced on a pre-order basis, the brand actively avoids overproduction and treats sustainability as a core design philosophy rather than an add-on.
They works closely with artisan communities across Peru, employing more than 350 artisans, of whom 95% are women and 91% come from rural areas. Many are the primary earners in their households, with 62% supporting their families and 40% coming from low-income backgrounds. By engaging these artisans through long-term, fair-paying partnerships, ESCVDO helps preserve ancestral textile techniques while creating meaningful economic opportunity.
In 2024, ESCVDO and its founder Chiara Macchiavello received global recognition when they won The Bicester Collection Award for Emerging Designers at the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards. The prize celebrated the brand’s commitment to heritage craft, responsible production and social impact, helping place Peru’s artisanal excellence firmly on the international design stage.
