A shared mission to empower ARTISANS worldwide

FOLKDAYS is a Berlin-based fair trade fashion and design brand founded in 2013 by Lisa Jaspers. The brand offers sustainable, handmade jewelry, accessories, interior products, and garments created by independent artisans, small family businesses, and fair trade organizations across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. FOLKDAYS advocates for fairer global trade policies supporting initiatives like the #fairbylaw petition to improve corporate accountability in supply chains. This petition was even initiated by FOLKDAYS' founder Lisa Jaspers.

Guided by our shared mission to empower creators worldwide, we have decided to join forces —meaning you wil now find FOLKDAYS products exclusively available through WLP. We are also thrilled to announce the opening of WLP's showroom in FOLKDAYS' former shop location at Audre-Lorde-Str. 19 in Berlin.

    Meet Lisa Jaspers

Lisa Jaspers co-founded FOLKDAYS with Kimon Haars to revamp the perception of fair trade in Germany, aiming to appeal to a younger, design-savvy demographic. Prior to launching the company, she worked with Oxfam and in public sector consultancy. Lisa holds degrees in political sciences and development economics from Freie Universität Berlin and the London School of Economics.

In 2019, Lisa collaborated with Naomi Ryland, co-founder of tbd*, to write Starting a Revolution, a business book that examines insights from female entrepreneurs regarding the future of business. Recognising a gap in business advice that addresses contemporary challenges like climate change and social inequality, they aimed to highlight underrepresented voices in business literature, specifically women. The book was self-published in English and later translated into German by Econ (Ullstein Buchverlage) in August 2020.

    Story & Highlights

FOLKDAYS strives to make an impact through sustainable business in three ways:

Equitable Income: The company purchases products from its partners at prices set by the creators, ensuring fair compensation and protecting against wage dumping. Many artisans, often small business owners with limited financial resources, benefit from pre-financing, which allows them to purchase necessary materials after an order is placed. The remainder of the payment is made upon shipping the products.

Cooperation with Social Businesses: FOLKDAYS partners with artisans and companies that prioritize social values and craftsmanship quality. Many of these partners are women-led or support indigenous communities, providing sustainable income to artisans in remote areas. The company collaborates with various social businesses across countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, and Peru, ensuring that their products are made without exploitation.

Shaping Fashion Discourse and Values: FOLKDAYS focuses on creating timeless jewelry, accessories, garments, and interior products, designed to last rather than conform to fleeting trends. The company seeks to foster appreciation for high-quality goods made from durable materials, promoting responsible consumption rather than encouraging overconsumption.
