MARISA FUENTES PRADO

As a child in the 1980s, she experienced her grandmother's clothing production in Lima, Peru. She developed by working with, artists, taking photographs, painting, and having a fiery wish to design clothes. Her background is paved by a fashion degree; working in 2013 with her favorite designer, Henrik Vibskov in Copenhagen; and, Paris and Copenhagen Fashion Week.

She’s currently producing from Berlin, where she let inspirations from different parts of the world flow together into a lasting design in an open dynamic environment. Berlin witnessed Maqu’s first full collection in 2016. Since then, Maqu Green Project company was founded. Art, design, and practicality flow together with social and environmental sustainability. That’s why 100% of our cotton is organically grown and GOTS-certified.

TECHNIQUE: Alpacas, whose wool we use, live freely in their natural habitat in the Peruvian Andes, above 4000 meters.

"Not only is the brand sustainable, but we as humans also do everything we can to live better to keep the balance. Maqu has to be accessible and affordable, we can say that sometimes it is difficult of course because our production is minimal and sometimes it puts us in trouble, but it always has solutions."

ALPACA WOOL

can be sheared much more easily and calmly than sheep because of their calm friendly character and natural curiosity towards humans. Our harvest is made in a sensitive way, the animals are part of the family and even have names. This kind of agriculture has been practiced almost unchanged in the Andes for thousands of years. The herds have free range, which prevents the destruction of the grasslands and erosion.

SUSTAINABILITY

We sought a GOTS certification for our organic cotton and Tencel/Lyocell, a fabric composed of wood and hemp. Thanks to our local and traditional wool farming we avoid the grassland's destruction by only harvesting the wool guided by shepherd families. This makes our production lines release small series.
Since we want the whole process to align with our values, we are on a plastic-free quest and, therefore, all our deliveries are made in paper recycled boxes by GoGreen.
