Gillian states about the inspirations for her creations: “The aesthetic is rendered through the creative process of jewelry making, acknowledging freedom to form rather than the expectancy of what the jewelry piece should look like. Manava products draw inspiration from Cambodian Kbach symbols, traditionally used in pottery and Cambodian temple carvings. Kbach refers to any Cambodian art-form or style in the Khmer, but more commonly relating to decorative elements of Cambodian architecture.

Different craftsmen are involved in the creation, the goldsmith and the hakak, gem-cutter, both of whom are employed in the workshop in Afghanistan's capital Kabul. In the last step, the earrings are plated with 14-carat gold in the workshop.
